Oral Exams & New Patient Exams in Surrey
At Fleetwood Park Dental Centre, we believe in preventative care and encourage routine dental checkups to maintain your oral health. We are accepting new patients to our clinic and welcome both individuals and families to our practice.
What to Expect During Your Dental Exam
During your dental exam, your dentist will conduct a thorough visual check to assess the health of your teeth and gums. Dental X-rays will be taken to identify any problems that may be occurring below the gum line, and your dentist will also discuss your oral health and address any concerns you may have.
Preparing for Your Oral Exam
We will provide a questionnaire to assess your health for all new patients. If you are taking any medications, it may be helpful to bring a list so you can inform your doctor and also advise them of any allergies you may have. If you suffer from dental anxiety, discuss this with the dentist so they can provide information about the sedation options we offer.
Dental Hygiene Appointments in Surrey
When tiny food particles get stuck between your teeth and gums, they form a sticky coating called plaque. With time, the plaque hardens and turns into tartar, which can be quite challenging to remove. To keep your teeth healthy and looking good, we highly recommend keeping up with your dental hygiene routine. This will help you maintain your oral health and avoid dental problems down the road.
How Does Tartar Affect Your Oral Health?
When tartar builds up between the teeth and gums, it weakens the gum and may cause your gums to recede. Bacteria in the tartar can also cause gum disease that can seriously affect your oral health. Signs of tartar may include yellow, black or brown stains on your teeth and an ongoing problem with bad breath.
What to Expect During Your Dental Hygiene Appointment
It can be very difficult to remove stubborn tartar by brushing and flossing alone, which is why we recommend visiting your hygienist for a thorough teeth cleaning. Your dental hygienist will use special tools to remove the tartar and offer brushing and flossing tips so you can work to prevent heavy build-up.
Dental Sealants
If you are looking for a preventative measure to help reduce dental cavities, ask your dentist about dental sealants. Dental sealants are a thin plastic coating painted onto the surface of the chewing teeth. They help to prevent food particles from getting stuck in the grooves of the teeth. Sealants are recommended for kids when they develop their adult teeth and are suitable for adults, too.
Dental X-Rays
Dental X-rays are recommended as part of your oral exam as they allow your dentist to get a better understanding of your oral health. Digital X-rays provide detailed images of the teeth and jaws, helping your dentist to make a more accurate diagnosis by identifying problems that may be present below the gum line.
Root Canals
There are many signs of a tooth infection; they include toothache, swollen gums, gum discolouration or a lingering tooth sensitivity. None of these symptoms is normal, so if you experience one or more of these effects, we recommend visiting your dentist, as you may require a root canal.
Teeth Extractions
When it comes to maintaining your oral health, our first course of action is to do everything we can to save your natural teeth. However, there are situations where a tooth may be affected so severely that it’s impossible to save, and a tooth extraction may be the best option.
